You don’t always need a custom application for your Facebook fan page to look amazing. Save yourself time and money by letting Gooey develop your Facebook microsite and/or custom tabs.

If you’ve played around with Facebook pages, you can see that  layout-wise, there isn’t a lot of options.

A current misconception seems to be that in order to have any custom content or display elements in a Facebook page, such as a custom tab or profile box with a specific promotion or branded look and feel, you need a Facebook application.

This is wrong!

Gooey use a Facebook application called Static FBML, which was put out by Facebook to allow the creation of custom HTML/FBML boxes and tabs on your Facebook fan page.

When using the FBML, the general rule of thumb is –  you can’t use any scripted languages like PHP or ASP, and you can’t access APIs to get user information (if you need to do these you need a custom app).

Click here to check out our Facebook page for an example of what can be done.

We have custom tabs and a microsite within the Digital Goo tab.

Gooey produce Facebook custom tabs and microsites for many clients including ecommerce retailers whom benefit from being able to display products which are deep-linked into their ecommerce platform. Call Gooey on 0161 605 0814 or email hello@abitgooey.com for further information.

Ten years ago content management systems were rare. If you was a web designer or developer and could offer clients the ability to administer and edit their own website, you were ahead of the game.

The idea that non-technical people could update their websites content easily and quickly was new. So a lot of new-media agencies developed their own bespoke CMS’s as a way of providing an additional service to clients. What’s amazing is how many agencies still try to push these systems on their clients, because in the current economic climate there’s simply no justification for doing so.

If an agency tries to tell you that you should use their in-house CMS today, they’re doing you a disservice. They’re taking advantage of your lack of knowledge of digital technology by claiming that their bespoke service is the way forward.

In a world of widely available, top quality, open source and commercial CMS’s, there’s no upside to using a bespoke system. All the advantages lie with the agency, not the client.
